We are based in a small, traditional village in the North Alentejo called Cabeço de Vide close to the border with Spain.

The Alentejo is a huge region about the same size as Belgium. Largely agricultural, it is famous for the production of cork, olives and excellent wine and for its relaxed pace of life.  The area has a colourful history and our rides take us past Neolithic standing stones, Moorish castles, past Roman bridges and ruins and into medieval fortified towns. The region is home to some of Portugal’s most beautiful towns and cities.  Click on the link for more pictures and information. » www.visitalentejo.pt

Our location close to the border gives us the opportunity to ride through the mountains and into Spain.  The region of Extremadura is home to two of the most historic cities in Spain; Caceres and Merida.   Click on the link for more about the area. » http://turismo-en.sigimo.com

Riding through a natural park we cross the border at around 1000 metres along rocky trails and ridges and down into tiny whitewashed villages for lunch and drinks. The riding is more technical with some steep descents and climbs but we always have an alternative route for less confident riders.

The Alentejo is Portugal’s least developed region and this translates into excellent value for money for its visitors.  You can expect to eat out for 10 Euros a head including wine and a refreshing pint of beer after a days ride will cost you less than a pound.  If your only previous experience of Portugal is the Algarve you will be pleasantly surprised.

The area is also known for its spectacular wildlife.  On early morning rides you might catch a glimpse of wild boar or mongoose; you will certainly see eagles and the famous storks, even packs of vultures fighting over a sheep carcass.  And watch out for terrapins on the many river crossings!

At Enduro Republic we ride all year round.  One thing that’s virtually guaranteed in the Alentejo is a long hot summer.  Good weather can normally be relied on through April to September with spring being particularly pleasant.  Winters are less predictable; often very pleasant and dry they can also be wet giving us some fun on muddy trails!  Throughout the winter we can take short-notice bookings, click on the link above, give us a call, book your flight and enjoy some winter sun.
